Wedding Entertainment

Disc Jockeys

Disc jockeys are a great alternative as reception entertainment. Many wedding guests enjoy the wide variety of song selections a disc jockey will have on hand. The nice thing about DJ's is that they can vary as much as the music they carry. Each disc jockey has his/her own unique personality and individual offerings to meet client's needs.

Pricing for disc jockeys can fluctuate widely depending on what equipment/props they provide, the length of performance time selected, whether travel is required and so on.

Many professional disc jockeys are experienced at performing Master of Ceremony duties. This means that they can control the tempo of your reception as well as what activity takes place next . It is important during your initial meeting with a perspective disc jockey to discuss whether or not they are comfortable in this role. A top notch disc jockey can guide the newlyweds straight through from the couples introduction to clearing out the end of the evening stragglers once the party has ended.

This next advice is critical! If you hire an entertainment company to contract a DJ for you -- then remember the old adage of buyer beware. Your wedding day is one of the most special times in your life and you do not want someone showing up whom you've never met. A contract disc jockey will probably know very little if anything about the couple, and who knows what they will be wearing. Make sure the contract for services that you sign is exclusive to the DJ you actually meet!

Last but not least, be creative. Get together with friends and family to compile a "hit list" of you favorite dance songs. By delivering the list to you disc jockey prior to the big day, you and your new spouse can rest easy knowing everyone can dance the night away at your reception.

Questions to Ask the DJ

Do you bring special lighting?
Will there be any props?
What is your fee?
Is there an overtime fee?
What will you wear?
How long have you been doing weddings?
Will you be Master of Ceremonies and announce special events?
Do you have a special sound system?
Will you take requests from guests?
Will you be able to play all the specific songs that I request?
